Thanks for this! As a believer and a seminarian, it becomes more and more apparent with each passing year of my life that this is exactly the problem with American Christianity. During one of my undergrad classes, we watched a video of James Cone who told a story about an inner-city Catholic school whose primary demographic was black children. The story was beautiful. It told of the impression of the children as the white nuns came into each room, one at a time, with a ladder and a box. The box held crucifixes of a black Jesus. The white Jesuses were removed and replaced, one at a time, carefully, by these nuns.

They believed that the children should have a representation of Jesus that spoke to them. And this is how they started that work. It made my heart more than happy.

Thanks again!
