I think you just don't apply. If you are paying attention and want to work on the relationship, then you are making tweeks along the way that won't demand that she ask anything from you. Good on you. You are a rare one. ANd I don't really think this is gendered. I just think women think about this more often and try to find solutions to their pain. Men often don't.
