Thank you so much for this! I agree with every word you say. I have 4 children as well, homeschooled and am a music teacher. We have much in common. What I have seen in my son is just this: the nurturing of his emotions and interpersonal skills has landed him in a place of being a balanced 21 year old boy, aware of his faults, but active in becoming whole. My daughters all are assertive to some extent, far more than I ever was and am today. In fact, to come to this later in life, post-trauma and PTSD, is the MOST painful thing in the world. To be assertive is to feel aggressive, to have to draw power from my toes. It is more than difficult. So, to raise girls whose voices are heard is essential if we want them to succeed and have to fight the demons we have to fight-because I bet I am not the only one.
