Men have so little concept of what it really takes to raise a child through all of the stages of life into adulthood. Women are in it for the long haul.

A divorced friend of mine in Israel told me that when a child is born, the man is then obligated to care for the mother the rest of her life, whether they are married or not. She can work and have a life as well, but because a woman tyoically does a the heavy lifting domestically, the men are legally obligated to care for them as well as their child/ren. Some places in the world have got it right.
